2000        Establishment of the On-the-job Master Program of Mechanical and Automation Engineering

2001        Establishment of the Ph.D. Program in Graduate Institute of Engineering Technology

2005        Establishment of the Professional Master Program of Industrial Research & Development

2008        Establishment of the Institute of Industrial Design and the Master Program

2013       the university established a precision machinery group and an intelligent automation group.

2014         Established master’s class in advanced manufacturing technology

2014 Established a dual-track electromechanical class

2016 Established production and electromechanical class

2018, From February 1,the three schools merged into Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology, Kaohsiung University of Applied Science and Technology, Kaohsiung University of Marine Science and Technology) 

2019,From August 1, the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering will be renamed as the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

MISSION

In response to the global development trend of Industry 4.0 and smart machinery, the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, with the goal of combining theory and practice, is planning two major systems of precision machinery and smart automation in the direction of cross-domain integration such as informationization, precision, automation and intelligence. courses in the field, and engage in research and talent cultivation.

FOCUS

To align with the development trend of the industries toward Informatization, Precision, Automation, Intelligence, and Creativity, there are three major disciplines for the teaching and research of the MAE department.

 Precision Engineering:

Functional Design and Analysis of Precision Machinery, Precision Manufacturing, Molding Technology, and Quality Engineering.

 Intelligent Automation:

Optoelectronic Integration, Control Technology, Production Automation, Internet technology, Robotics, and System Integration.

 Design Engineering:

Innovation and Value added Product Design, Industrial Design, Green Design, and Collaborative Design.

It recruits students who graduated from senior vocational schools, senior middle schools and comprehensive high schools, and recruits 102 freshmen every year.

Master Class: Recruiting students with university graduation or equivalent academic qualifications:

1.Master’s class

Mechanical and Automation Engineering (recruiting 32 new students each year)

Industrial Design (recruiting 11 new students each year)

2. Master’s degree on-the-job courses

24 new students are admitted each year

Doctoral class: Recruiting master's degree students (18 students) with a master's degree or directly studying for a doctoral degree, international doctoral class: 8 students/year
